You need to pull up one end of the carpet with the tip of a cemented knife. Take hold of the corner of the carpet and continue to pull the carpet up and away the tack strip. Continue this around the entire perimeter of the room, unless you are just restricting the carpet along one or two walls.

Screening for padding:

Pull back enough of the carpet to mark off the padding underneath. If any of the padding is on the tack strip, cut it off with a utility knife.

Exercise of Power stretcher:

Put together the power stretcher by adding as many poles as it needs to cover the stretcher across the distance of the room where you are going. Place the flat end of the stretcher against the skirting board along the wall opposite where you are failing to begin stretching the carpet. Protect the baseboard by sliding a piece of scrap 2-by-4 lumber between the stretcher and the skirting board.

Setting of power stretcher

Set the stretcher’s head about 6 inches out from the rampart. Adjust the stretcher’s setting so its teeth dig into the carpet’s base. Draw in the carpet stretcher’s ratcheting arm toward the foundation wall. Equally you practice this; the stretcher pulls the carpeting tight. Lightly press the carpet down. Release pressure on the capstone.

Stretching along the room:

Move the stretcher about 18 inches along the rampart. If there is a door on the long wall, go in that commission. Repeat the previous step if necessary. Go along to extend section.

Resetting the Carpet:

Place the end of the knee kicker with the teeth about 6 inches away from the wall where you have already set the carpet. Kick the knee pad, and the teeth of the knee kicker will pull the carpeting a little bit closer. Press the carpet down onto the tack strip.

Setting carpet with Lumber:

Reduce the power stretcher for the breadth of the room. Place the remainder with the scrap lumber along the baseboard in the midriff of the wall you just knee kicked into place. Put the remainder of the power stretcher with the teeth against the wall you haven’t kneed kicked. Stretch that piece of carpeting.

Trimming and finalizing

Put a carpet trimmer along the skirting board. Press it downward on the trimmer as you move. As you run the trimmer forward, reduce the excess, stretched carpet. Use a stair tool to tuck any remaining stray edges into the gap between the tack strip and the wall.
